My friend and I have been dating for 4 years now and we've talked about marriage before, even have talked about getting married February 2008, but haven't set a date. I've been married before, but he hasn't. Do you think it's time to set a date or make plans?

I believe if he wanted to marry you he would have buy know he is probably a kind of person that count up some cost their is something about you that makes him afraid to go ahead a do it Men watch women before they get married they want to know what they are getting in to unlike most women we just soooo in love . It could have been the smallest thing you set his mind another way. A husband is looking for someone that will be a virtous women supporting, strong, christ like even though they might not be don't like to hear of your old hoe days it turns them off they want to visual that they are marring the perfect women even though no one is perfect we all know that. Start talking less and observing more. Be whole and happy and confident in you men are very attract to this type of women be blessed

Why does marriage even have to be the "next" logical step?
People can love each other and be together in a committed relationship without that piece of paper that states that the man has just enslaved himself to a woman's whim of divorce later on.

Marriage doesn't benefit men the same way it does women given the divorce culture in this country. If he is hesitant, he has legitimate reasons to be hesitant to marry.

Do you want to get married? The pressure of marriage does not need to define your relationship. My husband and I dated for five years before we got married and we were in no hurry to do so. My advice, decide why you feel the need to get married (do you want children, do you want to be legally bound, etc.) and weigh that decision against how you feel know. If the need to get married outweighs how you feel know, that get married. But, if you are happy with the status quo, then so be it. The only thing that matters is how happy you are in your relationship now. Marriage does not necessarily guarantee happiness! Good luck in whatever you decide!

That's a long time -- but he would have asked if he really wanted to get married, after two or three years. You two might love one another, but just not be a match for marriage.

If the relationship is not going anywhere it is time to call it in as DOA. What is the point in being in a relationship that is not growing? You are not getting younger and neither is he. What will you do when the pretty is gone? Lets be honest, it is our look that attracts the mate and then our brain that is supposed to keep them. After time, the look will go and then what?

You don't really sound all that enthused about getting married. Do you really love this man? If so, set a date and make plans.
