The biggest difference between regular "trucks" and fire engines is that the fireman are allowed to use the jake brake(engine brake) within city limits, and if I'm not mistaken it is automatic on fire trucks, when they step on the brake, the compression of the motor is used to slow the engine and truck down, giving it that distinct sound when decelerating, but in fact most trucks with engine brakes sound exactly the same, although many newer trucks have mufflers on their engine brake to keep it quiet. The other difference is most truckers don't make a habit of driving like absolute madmen, where fireman must.

My area has a funny woo - woo- woooo type siren. The ambulances go nee naw, and the police cars are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..........
