This could mean several things:
-Your computer temp sensor is bad
could cause the fan to cycle more frequently. This is unlikely.
-Your computer is dirty on the inside
a blanket of dust keeps components warmer, causing the fan to run more. Buy some compressed air and carefully spray out the computer and the fan.
-Your computer fan is getting old
this could be causing more noise where you didnt notice it before.

If you still are concerned you can always take it to a local computer repair shop (NOT BEST BUY) and they should be able to quickly diagnose the problem.

Does it sound like a fan is going bad? If so, get a replacement quickly, or else you run the risk of overheating. If the fan is just running and doesn't sound like a weed-whacker, it's just expelling heat from the computer...that is normal. If it runs all the time, you might need to clean the dust out of it.

get a new fan, easy enough to fit, a complete twit can do it, so you should be safe, just unplug the old fan unscrew it and do the reverse with the new fan should sort it, because the fan should always be running, and as for who ever said, blow the motherboard, its not that bad unless your PC is extremly Powerful it won't get too hot if you have your CPU fan which you do because otherwise it wouldn't work for more than 15 mins or so before cutting out.

You might need to clean out the fan. It can get pretty dusty, and make it harder to run, to keep your computer cool. As the last post said, if you do keep running it, it can over heat, and blow the whole mother board. We have just recovered from this, so avoid at all costs!

Good luck!

It is most likley the cpu fan,
I suggest that you find an air compressor and blow all the fans in the computer clean, or it could be your graphics card because my graphics card had a fan on it and it was always loud so i took is off and bam it was quiet again and if none of those work.........new fans.

greater value-effective followers make greater noise, and a few systems do no longer make any attempt to lessen noise with the aid of throttling followers down. maximum new desktops have a temperature sensor on the CPU, a definite circuit keeps song of this temperature and whilst it rises, will improve the fan velocity. What happens is the heatsink (and fan) get clogged up with dirt, so it dissipates much less warmth, the sensor detects this & cranks up the fan to compensate. cleansing the dirt out of your heatsink and fan might bypass an prolonged thank you to quieting your computing device. If it nevertheless produce noise after cleaing, get a fan controller. i want to advise this to you: Zalman ZM-MFC2. Or nonetheless, you should get a greater effective heatsink made out of copper or aluminium and it would serve you nicely. ought to evaluate shifting the Compaq innards to a casing with greater effective ventilation.
