I'm a complete techno-phobe but need to buy a laptop; I need one for my studies (so guess it needs a big memory for storing essays etc) and I also want to go online, store photos, download and store music etc. Don't play games at all - can anyone recommend a good laptop? I've got a budget of up to £400. Thanks!

hello there,
well i would recommend you buy an Acer laptop as they have big memory and are very stylish. well im getting one for my birthday !!!
you would be suprised at the little amount of memory essays and word documents take. only photographs take up lot of memory and i guess if you had 1,000,s of songs on there too, that would take a lot of your memory. i dont play games at all to as the are for little children and nerds who have no girlfriends hahahaaaa. no im only messing. for £400 you can buy your self a smashing laptop and i hope this answe ahs helped yo in your purchase of one. i do strongly recommend Acer.
goodbye and have fun !!!!

I personally like Dells. I'd look for something that had 1gig of memory. That will cost you the most. A moderate processor around 1.8 - 2 Ghz should do you nicely. At least a 60 gig hard drive and I would also look to purchase an external enclosure that had a USB connection at some point for additional storage. Don't go looking for the biggest display on the laptop either. You need to be able to fit into your bag and carry it around with you without having to carry and extra computer bag. Also look into educational discounts that you may qualify for. Often companies will offer software and hardware at a HUGE discount if you ask for it.

Hope I helped you out some

You might want to check local computer shops for used or refurbished computers. You could try ebay if you are willing to take a risk. I just did a Google search and there are some new Inspiron 1501's on Dell.com for $499 if you are willing to go a bit over budget.

Just get the cheapest Dell you can find and that will work great for you.

I would go with a Dell, they are cheap enough and work quite well.
