Lybrel is the new pill that stops periods from happening BUT IMO its too new and there is not enough information on its long term affects (pregnancy afterwards, other affects as well) for me to be gung ho about it.

There is Seasonale, which lets you have FOUR periods a year, and I've heard good reviews about.

You can't do it continually (I think you start to get breakthrough bleeding anyway if you skip 2 or 3 "periods") but every once in a while it's okay. I didn't hear about taking the next pack backwards, I thought you just skipped the placebos and went as normal. If you want to constantly do this you might like to ask for a pill like Seasonale or Lybrel where you have fewer periods.

With any type of bcp you can skip your period. The way to go about it is to just skip the placebo pills (sugar pills) and to just continue taking the active ones.

There is a brand called Seasonale that lets you have only 4 periods in a year, I believe.

Talk to the gyn about it, she will be the one who can help you decide on what's best for you.

in addition to whats stated here, there is a new BC in the works, being researched now, that is supposed to end your period, and depo does it for some women. of course depo also causes many women to bleed for months on end. you can skip a period if you need to by skipping your placebo pack, but also be warned that if you have heavy periods normally, you may experience breakthrough bleeding at any point during the next cycle of normal use.
