My girlfriend went to Italy and she calls me maybe every other day if I'm lucky with a payphone and calling card. Her cell does not work, she cannot use the internet for some reason. It takes 5-10 days for a letter to possibly get through because from what I have heard Italy is bad with their mail? I missed her call yesterday when I lost signal walking into a bank for 5 minutes, YAY now I have to wait a day or two more to hear from her, and then she only can talk for like 2 minutes. I have no idea whats going on, how her days are going, if shes eating ok, has enough money, lives in a safe place, has transporttion, etc, etc.

Is there a good way for her to communicate with me that you can think of I'm fresh out of Ideas. Even though letters take forever I'm still sending them.

She went to Calabria Italy for school. Small place of around 3000 people, from what she told me anyway.

I don't have any suggestions. Internet was always the best way for me to communicate and when I lived in Spain my family and friends from home could call my cell phone and I wasn't charged anything. She may want to look into getting a prepaid cell phone. The one I had in Spain had a certain number of minutes when you bought it and then when you needed more minutes, you bought a card and punched in the code and it added the new minutes on. Like I said, I could receive international calls for free. Also, check out www.enjoyprepaid.com. You can buy an electronic phone card or your girlfriend can and use it to call you. You can recharge it online too or by calling. I hope that helps!

She can rent a cell phone, or even buy a cheap one with prepaid minutes. Most American cell phones don't work in Europe as you have found out, they have a different frequency. However just as in the USA, it's easy to get a cell phone with prepaid minutes just about everywhere.

With everyone having either laptops or home computers, there are not very many Internet cafes anymore. I can understand her having trouble finding one, but not that she can't...

Word of advice, stop trying so hard to talk to her all the time. She is busy and may grow to resent your obsession from so far away. You really need to find something to take your mind off of her while she is gone. You sound like her parent, not a boyfriend.
