Read about my original XP Home re-loop problem:

While in BIOS, I used "Disable automatic restart on system failure" to confirm the below error as the cause:

STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" Error Message When You Restart Your Computer or Upgrade to Windows XP

Full error code listed: 0x000000ED (0x82B7E960, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

a) Please desribes what this means in lay-man terms?
b) Is this error fixable and if so, how?
c) Are the contents of my hard-drive salvagable?
d) Are any hardware pieces damaged and/or defective?

start your computer and put in your copy of windows xp. restart the computer from the cd(not the hard drive). at the menu screen, type in R and hit enter. at the C: prompt type in fixboot and hit enter. this should fix the boot volume.
A. your boot volume became corrupted either by a virus or improper shut down.
B. with any luck by the way i just described, it is repairable
C. if this doesn't work the data is still recoverable by putting this hard drive into another computer as a slave drive.
D. this seems to be a software issue and as such, NO hardware was damaged

That error usually means that your hard drive has gone bad and cannot be booted from. It MIGHT be possible to salvage data off of the drive (hopefully)...just hook it up to another computer and try to get it off that way. I would get a new hard drive and reinstall Windows.

go to start - run - chkdsk this should correct hard drive issue
