I wish Tony Blair would keep the hell out of the honours list selection comity!
Its a total disaster waiting to happen! Rushdie has his honours from his writings themselves... His services to intellectual freedom have been greatly talked about for years...but can we say these are services to OUR NATION OR THE COMMONWEALTH?
No, He is not eligible for honours from the crown and to put him forward for a K is a travesty!
But what the Hell! Tony's cronies exist to rubbish the institutions of the Monarchy and the Commonwealth... keeping this in mind I'm not at all surprised that this man will be the last of Tony B's chosen few... He is going to retire and wash his hands of the honours business knowing that he has driven the knife into the crowns back and twisted it one last time.

The news is highly interesting about the money minded and self-centred hypocrite Salman Rushdie. Only now the so called absolute freedom lovers in UK who rejoiced when Rushdie’s concoction Satanic Verses was published, realise the real colour of Rushdie. They out of ill-will, unreasonably, prejudicially supported him because he attacked Islam the culture to which Rushdie’s parents belonged to, but now they hate him because the same Rushdie has started criticising the respected British tradition of monarchy as stupid and archaic. Rushdie’s bodyguard Ron Evans has written a book( Title On Her Majesty’s Sevice) that Rushdie says that it contains derogatory terms, it defames people, it is full of filth and lies and fiction. Why not salman Rushdie accept Ron Evans book under the banner of freedom of speech, why should he hate the book and the author? There is a strong smell of hypocrisy in what Rusgdie says.

Surely there's an important principle at stake here, though?
Namely that the British are entitled to choose whoever they like for the honours list, without having to get the list vetted first by the Muslim world.
The collective temper tantrums now being thrown by the Muslim world are not because they hate Salman Rushdie. It's because that's what they do. And I'm half Muslim so I have firsthand knowledge of this.
Personally, I don't like Rushdie's work, and I don't know why he's being knighted, especially as he doesn't even live in the UK. But the key point is that Muslims should stop going so crazy every time they don't get their own way.

Islamic extremists had ordered the execution of Salman Rushdie because he had the "stones" to tell things the way he saw them. Islamic extremists have said it is OK to kill Americans, non-Muslims, and even OTHER MUSLIMS if they aren't "Muslim enough" - men, women, and CHILDREN - simply because they ARE not agreeing with THEIR view of what Islam is. If they are offended, I am pleased! They DESERVE to be offended! They are intolerant religious homicidal LUNATICS and if they don't like me calling them that because it offends them I say GOOD!!! Its about time somebody offended them because they are offending US with their fundaMENTAList homicidal antiquated NONSENSE! ALL HAIL SIR RUSHDIE!

Your a bit late this has been asked about 10 times already. What ever the UK decides to do should not be dictated to by an angry muslim mob, do not give into bullies.

I think some one who has offended so many people shouldnot be chosen for a knighthood. It shows that people can offend others and get away with it and in this case even be praised for it-its disgusting!!
