The 127 had a 900cc and later a 1049cc engine , so it gave a lot better mpg than the 1100cc and later 1300cc 128.
The 127 was a smaller and lighter car but the 128 had better road handling.
They shared similar design ideas in many area but not to many interchangeble parts.
The 127 had a pushrod engine and the 128 had a single overhead cam driven by toothed belt driven with shims in buckets.
This allowed a much more reliable high rpm engine.
Both the 127 and 128 won car of the year awards and were many years ahead of other brands.
The layout of the engine in the 128 is now widely copied in almost every front wheel drive car now produced.
In a highly modified form I had 110hp out of my own 128 1100 which was double the original power rating., it had a top speed of over 125 mph which is a big improvement over the factory 90mph.

127?????
Not a USA designation for a FIAT.
124 and 128 were both sold here in the 70's.
124 was a rear wheel drive sedan and a nifty sporty spider
128 FWD econo-box with small finicky engines, but great gas mileage. 128 sport was a fun coupe, but still FWD.
