That is what my dr. told me to do, but she only likes to play in it and feed her self a little. She doesn't have any teeth. She will be 10 months in a couple of days. Anyone else have this issue. I am mashing up sweet potatoes and peas.

If your daughter is 10 months, you could try to not mash it. My daughter has been eating people food since she was about 6-7 mo. Then I would mash it, but once she got her fingers going in the pinscer, we just cut it up very small. She really got into the picking up a 'thing', and then shoving it in her mouth. Maybe if she could hold onto it, she might have more success. We also gave her and my 4 year old when he was baby, everything we ate. My baby is now 1 and will wrestle you for chicken and squash, and zuccini. Also, there are little pasta noodles that fit perfect on the end of a baby's finger. They have fun getting them on there, and then everything ends up in the mouth.

Hope that helps :)

The fact that she is playing with her food and eating a little of it is a good sign.

However, for some reason, mashed potatoes are a difficult texture for many babies. I'd try just mashing up the peas, green beans, or other veggie and see how she does.

Also, make sure the food is seasoned the way you would eat it (with butter and salt). At her age especially, bland food is going to taste not so good and she may be gagging because of flavor.

Hope that helps!

you know- it COULD be the mashed up things she is not liking. Have you tried noodles? My baby is 8 month old and does not seem to like mashed up anything. She loves peas and greenbeans and corn-these are soft enough to where you dont have to mash them. I would try that- using just one veggie at a time.

Let her play that is how she is learning to eat. Try some bananas and apple sauce. Some times fruit tastes better. Most babies like sweet potatoes but peas (mine hated them).

Keep experimenting and some day you will be pleasantly surprised when she discovers something that she likes. All babies like real food when they are ready not on our schedule.

Good luck!

maybe you can give her a little amount at a time so she can get use to the texture of the food and i think the baby is playing with her food because she is curious about the texture, taste, and smell of the food. Just be patient.

I had this issue, however my sons was determined as a "feeding disorder" what it amounted to was that he wouldn't eat, or swallow any "real" food. He had an overdeveloped muscle that wouldn't allow him to swallow! He's all better now! Keep an eye on it, and don't force her. Talk to your doc about it more when you visit again!
