Get a trial copy of r-studio & run it. It can find a lot of your files, even after a format & O/S install

I've used it for exactly the same thing & it worked great. You'd be suprised how many people remember important files on the system drive after they've re-installed the OS.

Size restrictions apply for file recovery, so, you may need to obtain a license for bigger files, but, the trial version works for most word docs, etc.

Don't heed the majority of people I've seen posting here that say NO. They are obviously not system administrators. NOT KNOWING how to do something doesn't mean it can't be done.

The software is very easy to use & I guarantee it will suprise you.

Formatting only clears the FAT table off a drive, it doesn't wipe the content. Re-installing the O/S only flattens the area it installs onto, so, if you've not filled up your drive with new files since installing, you'll probably be OK to a point. You probably will lose some files, but, maybe not the ones you need. :0)

Good luck & have fun

They are ALL GONE. You wiped them clean by reformatting. You could have asked the geeks here for help. There are ways to repair your OS and eliminate the brontok virus.

Reformat should only be a last resort.

Once you have formatted a harddrive ( or any other disk or storage device ) you have lost everything on it.
So unless you have a copy of all the stuff you want on another media ( floppy disk, USB stick, CD etc ) you have no way of getting that info back.

Thats is why you should always backup the files once a week or just before formating the PC. I don't think there is a way of doing it. Sorry.

No the format erases everything completely from your hard drive. its better that way anyways because any data retrieval might lead to a new infection.

No, if your documents was in that drive, then say bye-bye to your documents, because you'll never be able to recover them. Theoretically, it's possible, because you have to write over datas 8 times on a hard drive to disappear eventually. But nobody will do it for you, or it will be unpayable for you.
