If you must pick from these two, I would say the second one because of the HDD size. What people don't realize is that for browsing the internet, 900 MHz is fine. You will want to upgrade the memory however. I don't recommend anything under 512MB for Windows XP. Once you can, upgrade the hard drive to something in the neighborhood of 120-160 GB. If you are playing recent games, neither one will work. Three things make a system change speed considerably: hard drive access speed/RPM, video card and memory (size and type). The processor is important but not as important as other three for internet browsing.

Go with the faster one. NOt sure what you're going to do with a computer with onlin a 1 Ghz processor. Thats like unheard of anymore. You can always upgrade the HDD if you need more room, which you probably will depended on what you use it for. The RAM is also very very very very low (Did I mention that the RAM is very low?) Either way you go, I'd upgrade the HDD and the RAM, or just buy a bigger/better computer.

I'll get the P3 900Mhz because its motherboard could support big hard drives. Chances are that it could also support bigger RAM. The P3 1Ghz might just support up to 32Gb hard drive.
If you expand the RAM to at least 384Mb, both PCs could easily run Win XP. You could use it for internet, downloading, light office apps, MP3s and DVD viewing. Just forget games.

the second one is marginally better, but both would strugle just using Windows XP i have a computer like it, i mean small hard drive which is ok, but the processors are rubbish, their old and out of date as well as being extremly slow my computer (average build nothing special) is 4 times as fast as the faster one of the two
