No judgemental comments please!!!!!! but im 28 weeks with an unplanned pregnancy, but happy all the same, but in a way still hasnt hit theres a baby inside me even so it moves round and keeps me awake etc, its not my fisrt baby but i gave up for her pregnancy easily but have not managed it this time. I agreed with my midwife when baby was born in that moment i intend to stop smoking as i dont want to breast feed and be a smoker at the same time, she agreed it was a great idea and would help me all the way in succeeding but in theory the bbirth of my child should be plenty incentive to give up.... So as soon as baby is born i will be ciggie free but with my last two i started smoking again soon after their births and i dont want to start again this time, anyone have any different ideas on how to continue the no smoking after ive finished breast feeding,,,, it seems so daft to quit then start again but its so easily done and the cravings overwhelm,,, i need some tips to keep it up??

i said no judgements plz!!!!!!!! i dont do drugs i dont drink or anything alike,,, my one downfall is smoking, the risks to my baby are not mental retardation!!!!! at most it can stunt the babies growth but i can assure you i am carrying a very healthy big baby and only more recently has it been said smoking is bad,, many years ago no one batted an eye lid!!!!!
atleast im recognising i want to quit that i want to suceed which is surely better than not quitting at all!

Maybe this time around you can find someone to keep you accountable, like a friend or relative.

Also, try to find a habit to replace the smoking, even if that means just holding something in your hand like a pen. Some people chew gum, chew on toothpicks, etc.

If this doesn't work try the patch or nicotine gum. It just depends on the person. Some find that quitting "cold turkey" is most effective but others need to be weaned off gradually.

Best of luck and congratulations!

Well honey, Since you ARE pregenant, a patch could possibly hurt that baby so maybe you just might wanna increase you're will power. Yes, smoking is very addictive and after you have that baby, it's gonna be hard but think of your childrens sake, your baby and those poor plants in your garden lol. Plus, it'll be alot more healthy for you. YOu don't want to die of lung cancer and not be able to see your grandchildren do you?
Good Luck!

Go ahead now and grab a copy of Alan Carr's book, the EasyWay to quit smoking. I think that if you read it, you may find it possible or even easy to quit smoking before the pregnancy is over. Of course, it won't work for everyone, but if it is just the cost of a book it seems worth it to me.

I quit smoking with the EasyWay method. No drugs, no pills, no relapse.

To stop smoking is a matter of the will and determination to do so. My dad did it at the very moment he decided that he quit and he succeeded.

Cigarette smoke contains abt more than 80 toxic elements. They are poisons. It is impt that the baby that U carry don't get any exposure to the toxic elements from smoking. Exposure to these substances doesn't happen when the baby is out but also within U. The lung is a very vascularized organ meaning its full of bld vessels and the toxic substance from the smoke cld mix with bld and be delivered to the fetus. So the harmful effects of the cigarettes start even when U have not yet delivered the baby. Remember that birth defects cld happen with chemical or with any toxic exposure.

So for the welfare of all, U and ur kids, stop smoking right now...for Heaven's sake!!!

Honey, ignore all judgemental people, who aren't in your shoes. I know what it's like to have to quit smoke for a pregnancy, sadly, I was not able to be strong enough to stay smoke free after my baby was born. I started back up again when she was about 2 months or so, and like you I always smoke outside and far away from the baby. I would say if you really want to quit, just quit and never look back. Block all cigs from your life completely and don't give yourself access to them at all. You can do it. Good luck!

DThis is your third delivery. In the two earlier cases you went on smoking till thedelivery.!Did you not notice any adverse effects on your offspring. If you have n ot they may just be latent and would come up by and by. And not you are pregnant and still smoking and intend to go on till delivery.A fine Mom you are who cannot leave this personal pastime for the child.! And we hear tales of Mothers who have left a comfortable life for the child. Be ashamed.Let us hope a time will come when women like you are forced to undergo vascetomy. And you say you do not want any highflownadvice .

Start this plan now because it’s a gradual technique. Before you smoke the first time of the day, take a few minutes to smell everything: your fingers, clothes, etc. After you smoke, repeat the process. Do this everyday. As the days go by, smoke a little later each day. After a while, do the smelling thing several times before you smoke: once when you wake up, after breakfast, before you smoke the first time, etc.
After you have done this for a little while, if you smell your fingers after you smoke and you think it smells good, try something else. Otherwise, your goal is to make it into the afternoon without smoking. Now you can stop, and if for some reason you can’t, no problem, resume the process with the goal of smoking later and later each day.
