Given that I am gay, I know it is not a choice. Regardless of a person's sexual orientation, it is not something we choose. We are born with the instinctual patterns that get our juices flowing. What causes those juices to bubble is not a choice: it just is.

People who are straight and find it hard to understand homosexuality probably have never thought about their "straightness". It's not like they wake up in the morning and say to themselves, "Hmmm, I think today I'll be straight." They just know that the opposite sex does it for them. Well, sorry to burst your bubble but it's the same with homosexuality. I don't wake up and say, "Hmmm I think today I'm going to be gay." I just am. I can not explain why and I really don't care. I just know what gets me going and it isn't women.

Cheers.

You make a good point. I get frustrated when straight people say that being gay is a choice - what the hell do they know? I have a suspicion that they like to assume that it is a choice so that they can justify calling it a sin. It wasn't a choice for me, it wasn't a choice for anyone I know. The only choice anyone has to make about being gay is when and whether to come out. And people should be allowed to decide for themselves if and when they are ready.

As has been said by previous answers, those that are not gay, don't have a clue. We know, but sadly, no one wants to listen. We've given them the answers and all they can do is say that a book that was written 2000 years ago and has been re-written hundreds of times says that it's bad. They just won't listen.

Those of us that are gay do know :)

Medical Proffesionals have been trying for years to discover the answer to the question "Why am I gay?" to date there is no conclusive catch all answer to explain it.

Unfortunately there are some on both sides that are merely trying to prove their predetermined idea is correct. Hopefully one day soon someone without an agenda will find the answer.

Then and only then will people understand what we already know.

We are not guided by the stars. We choose where we want to go in life. Most people have to work hard everyday to reach their goals. If you wanted to be straight you could if you put forth the effort. You don't and it's too much work.

People make different choices for their life everyday. Anne Heche is a good example of a gay person who changed her life. I also am close to others who changed. If they were born with an orientation this wouldn't be possible.

Why not just be honest with yourself and tell us that you like sex with men more than you like sex with girls?

that was a very strange way to word a question. but being gay usually means having a harder life in which people will look down on you and judge you, which can lead to personal insecurities and having to hide a whole part of your life (AKA staying in the closet) i dont think anyone would choose that, but people are born gay. its not something they just wake up one day and choose to be like they choose what shirt to wear to school.

here's the thing: everyone has been attracted to someone of the same sex - and the opposite sex for that matter - on some level. people who say sexuality is a choice are admitting that they have been attracted to someone of the same sex, but "chose" not to act on it (or, more likely, to act on it in their youth with other "straight" people and pretend it never happened :P) after all, they must have some personal experience on which to base their judgement of others!

I know that it ISN'T a choice. I know because I personally know several gay people, and they were born that way. They will tell you that, and you can tell that by studying them and talking to them about it.

It is NOT a choice....i wish straight men could understand that...maybe they could try to sit down with a gay guy and try and understand what we face and everything...
