Roger Maris and Minnie Minoso both wore #9 on their jersey. At one time a baseball player's number was specifically related to his place in the batting lineup. The regular starting 8 wore numbers 1 through 8 while the back-up catcher wore number 9. Numbers 10, 11, 12, &14 were the starting pitchers and the bench players wore 15 to 26. No one wanted number 13. This is really a great question because the number 9 was a number nobody wanted, after they evolved from the old system, because it filtered back to the back-up catcher days. I believe Ted Williams was the first signicant player to ware number 9 followed by the two I gave you above and than others.

There were and are lots of number 9's. You must be more specific.
