I don't think it's wrong at all. I had to give a speech on it last year. I think that if someone murdered someone by burning them or something, I think they should be burned, too. They should die the way that the victom did. I don't see how it's wrong at all if you have all of the evidence needed. And they can get that with witnesses and DNA testing. They can also use a lie-detecter test, although it is not admissable in court. And convicted murderers have a certain number or apeals that they can exhaust before they are executed. Good luck, hope this helped.

The 'eye for an eye' theory sounds fair, but I don't believe it's right. The government wants to enforce that say, killing is wrong however they kill people who kill?

When a parents uses violence against a child, it teaches the child that violence is ok, when parents use drugs it's more likely that the children use drugs, when a parent sexually abuses a child, the children are more likely to be abusive themselves.

Capital punishment has not reduced the murder rate in the American states that use it.

In effect Capital punishment can only be seen as revenge, and when the victims family is sitting, watching the killer die, they feel relief... they have just enjoyed seeing someone die.

they enjoyment of seeing someone die is what got the killer on death row in the first place.

If that isn't convincing enough, talk about the people that have been killed for crimes they didn't commit.

Talk about the people that are in jail for worse crimes in the same states as people on death row. Compare countries that use and don't use capital punishment, murder in Australia is significantly less than in America...

hope this helps.

Since there is no 'national' policy on the Death Penalty, each state can decide whether convicted criminals should be put to death. This question goes to the 'root' of putting someone in prision - is it to punish them or to rehabilitate them as a functioning member of society (could it be both?)

Whether it is wrong or ethical is a personal decision. For me, I do not believe that killing someone that has been convicted in killing someone makes that first act 'right'. I've never been, nor has any of my family been a victim of that type of crime, so, I am largely speaking from ignorance, or of hope.

When you're writing this paper, take a position (either side really) and you'll find a ton of information supporting it. Search on "death penalty" and victim rights organizations would likely support it, while most christian organization oppose it.

One question to ask in your paper: if the true purpose of imprisonment is to remove someone from society, and therefore have society be safer, what is the benefit of killing that person as opposed to killing them?

good luck

I think the death penalty is ethical. The criminals knew the punishment that awaited them when they committed their crimes. However, due to the lag time it takes from the sentence to the execution I would be more in favor of life without the possibilty of parole. On average in 1998 the time served before execution was 10 yrs and 10 months. Some states like Texas excute their prisoners within 5 years and other states like California are within 20 years. We're also talking about people who confessed to their crimes. We're talking about DNA evidence. Without a doubt 100% guilty and it still takes that long to carry out the punishment.

Yes, it's ethical. People end up on death row mainly because they murdered someone else. These idiots who stand outside of the prisons with their candles protesting these penalties need to think about how they'd feel if they had been looking at the barrel of a gun just before that "poor" convict blew their heads off with no remorse.

If you're not adverse to quoting the bible, there are plenty of places in the book of Leviticus where it says "Take him outside the city and stone him to death." And that was done only on the testimony of two witnesses. Of course it's ethical.

I think at a certain point, after commiting a some hanous crimes, any man does not deserve the "privilage" of being on this earth. But I also think that our prison system is old and outdated. Today's society produces too many criminals to hold them all. We need a newer tougher system with stricter punishments for serious crimes.

This is a personal matter. I believe in the DP as a deterrent for society. My State has the DP because it's citizens voted to have it. Other states decided not to have it.
