Some are ideological (the infiltration of radical Islamist ideologies, for example), some physical (Iran's intentions toward Israel). Can we ever combat these threats in a way which does not entail us departing from our democratic values? Does resorting to non-diplomatic tactics damage our own democratic framework?

I do not think that values are in question face external threats! Usually western democracies merely care about patriotic and economic reasons... What threats? The only threat I see is the western hypocrisy! Do not worry, non-diplomatic tactics already damaged our democratic framework!
Stop thinking that evil is always outside, and that inside, foreigners are a threat!

There was a poster during the Vietnam war that read "War is not healthy for children and other living things!" People need to understand their "freedom is not free" it's been paid for many times over. I know we are not perfect, mistakes are made, however if anyone feels they are perfect (beside Hillary Clinton) let them perfect the governments of today.

All's fair in love and war. Unfortunately the politically correct crowd don't see it that way. It takes strength and bravery to fight for freedom. I don't know about Great Britain, but more than half the people in the US act like weenies.

Simple solution- throw out all the malcontents unhappy with the way our nation is.
