I am very particular about who I let into my life, since whoever I let into mine is also in my husbands and my childrens etc.
A few years ago, I did some "house cleaning" getting rid of people who were more or less "emotional vampires" etc. And I asked myself a really hard question
"who could I call at 3am from a police station, tell them I was arrested for murder, and their first question would NOT be "did you do it" ...." in other words, would would bail me out, no questions asked.
I know it may sound silly.......but if you're truly and I mean BRUTALLY honest with yourself then it's really not hard to figure out who or what a true friend is. And.........I was surprised who I was left with........surprised and I might add very grateful.

I see marriage as a non secular perception this is between a guy and a woman, of any race. even with the undeniable fact that, if a gay or lesbian couple want a civil union, which would be legally seen as a marriage, then i'm in contact with that. that would desire to additionally be prolonged to every person, gay or quickly, who desires to be "married" yet would not want the religious component.

I have to agree with your definition though. I have very few friends, but I am always surrounded by people. They're great people, but not someone I'd tell my darkest secrets to.
A friend to me is someone who knows me (almost) better than I know myself. I have one specific great friend, and she and I are soulmates. Then again, my hubby is my best friend. It was always hard for me to rely and trust people, so I generally never gave them the chance to be a good friend...

Someone who you can turn to in good times and in bad. Someone who will listen with a kind ear and an open mind. Someone who will support you no questions asked. That someone for me is and always will be my sister.

Do not rend the dictionary apart, a friend is no fiend, a friend fends off trouble and sorrow for you, a true friend is end of all trouble for you, find him/her, even if you have a treasure hunt to do!

well... there are aquaintances... pals... and then friends.
aquaintance (i hate typing that word)... is somebody who you might... you know... just talk to in one class in school... or just see in the hallways... say good morning... hows your day... or like another parent at the ballet academy... just... have a nice day... you know.
pal... somebody who you probably have their myspace to, or a phone number, email, etc. you have more interesting conversations... he could be in your little... "possy"... etc.
a friend... is somebody who you hang out with a lot... you tell them a lot of things... and they will stick up for you no matter what. they are your role model... and you are theirs. they will never betray you... and neither will you do to them.
thats all my opinion.
