I need to change the fuel filter on a 1996 Saturn SL1 is it an inline filter that I need a special tool to remove and install it? and how hard of a job is it to do. My worry is snapping the fuel lines since they are plastic. Thanks in advance.

I do have a manual on how to repair this I just saw it 2 days ago and I cannot for the life of me find it! that is why I asked on here, I am not changing it my hubby is. and he has worked on many of cars I just don't want to take it in for a simple job that would cost me more in labor than parts.

On your 1996 Saturn SL1 1.9L MFI SOHC , the Fuel Filter is located:

Under hood, driver side, rear side of strut tower, mounted on side of frame rail in fuel line

See if this is your fuel filter and the procedure to install a new one:

Go to your local auto parts store and look for a repair manual for your make and model, and look up fuel filter. This book will have photographs, illustrations, tools, step-by-step procedures, torque requirements and other cautions related to the task. if you can't do this job you will be able to do other repairs. When you buy a tool, it's an investment in yourself.

If you are at all worried about breaking the fuel lines, or not confident in attempting the replacement... please pay the dollars and take your vehicle to a reputable service center/garage and get them to carry out the repairs. It isn't worth the frustration to yourself if something doesn't go right if you tried to do it yourself, and what if the lines weren't tightened enough, or over tightened causing breakage of the line...you have a fuel leak... the results could be somewhat fatal!
ps. I am not a mechanic seeking business.
