Marriage is basically man-woman relationship. Why has it become a problem for human beings while animals and birds seem to be wiser in this respect?Perhaps choosing a mate requires intuition and we don't have it or lost it !

I would argue against "most marriages end up in misery." The institution of marriage can be a pleasant and wonderful state of existence. It is a very important decision. Some do not choose wisely, some do not have realistic expectations from the start, and some just do not like to be institutionalized.

In both of these cases, the person in question is poorly prepared for life. Since marriage is an important part of today's life, it would stand to reason they are poorly prepared for that too and should wait as if their life depended on it because it does. But they won't. They never do.

In one of these cases, the major difference is delusion. When you marry for the sake of marrying, you're deluding yourself. Many people marry because the relationship is getting stale and that's a way of not having to admit that to yourself. Or they marry because they believe 'settling down' will change the person they're with. But marrying is NOT settling down. Settling down is when you DECIDE to marry based on good, sound judgement and a sincere desire to have your best friend with you at all times.

The other case is far more upsetting because you KNOW the entire time it may not be a good idea but you believe there are no other alternatives.

It could be either of those. Likely both resultant marriages will end up in misery - agreed.

However, marriage can also be a decision made by two people who have their eyes wide open and are willing to accept the commitment and challenge of a lifetime.

Ah, flip the rock to find the bugs.
Yes, exactly. It's made up to be the end all, be all of existence in our lives, yet it doesn't bring lasting happiness. Building on shaky ground right from the start. I think it so sad and funny to see people stress so hard over their wedding day; what happens when "the greatest day of your life" is over and reality sets in?

If a person ls looking for someone to bring them happiness, they should start with the alternative of fixing their own life first.
