it should be done for both. art can mean many things. it can mean how you express yourself and show your feelings. art is what ever u think it is. art can make you think about yourself or about things. a painting or poem or anything can have several meanings. it depends on ur point of view.

Of course beautiful art will always have a market in the art world. I think that art is one of the greatest forms of self expression. Im a strong believer in art with a message. Recently achieving this myself i know that if i make something that has my own thoughts and feelings in it i will appreciate it so much more, it will still be beautiful. I guess i've never really understood beautiful art for its own sake. Sure its beautiful its like wow to look at but then you walk away and you dont take anything from it because its just something nice to look at. Almost like a really good looking guy with no personality. Something good to look at but it doesnt touch you it doesnt make you think. Anywayz just my opinion =) im passionate about this subject.

when art is done for beauty, it gets watched by everyone
all the people become fan of it for the next month but after a year, it is forgotten
when art gives a message but is not beautiful, then people get bored when they are watching, it wouldn't become best seller, but it gets a place in classics
when art has both beauty and message, then it is considered as masterpiece

Both. Beauty is relative. But the artist at least should be giving the message that the art he made means beauty to him.

Art by itself is a message.. When the artist takes his tools in hand and begins to create, he's already predesposed to trasmit a message, not always completely clear and decided, but in anycase a message of wish to share his feelings with others.
Thus, art becomes a bridge of communication between the creator and the eventual spectators.
The form, the "maniera" varies through time, as it is influenced by philosofical, political, religious etc factors. But the great creators were the ones to break through the fashion of each era and promote new points of view, as to the same theme.
Giotto was the one to escape from the Italian - Bysantine tradition and add landscapes and scenes of everyday life in his paintings.
Caravaggio was the one to escape from common manierism and play with the dark and the light, not to mention the often brutally realistic depictions of him.
El Greco was the one to escape from the adoration of clear and neat shape of things and give rise to expressionism.
This way, art is beauty, but at the same time it gives a double message:
The one which is connected to the theme of the piece of art, and the other which is connected to the creator's wish and skill to follow and show new ways of perception and conception of things.

The art on the walls here what I would keep has an element of beauty but also has symbolic importance. I think both were in mind when it was made.
It depends on what style of art a person likes, what they buy; not suggesting thinking of audience but what is practical-I think art with the element of both would be more sellable. Also a great beauty less obvious I think is in art that has no particular intention.

Hello dear!
Well, art, before beauty and communications tool is math/ physics! As we "see" some are more attracting than others. Why is that? It is because, as ancient Greeks discovered and wrote, what follows the "phi" analogies look "nicer" to our eyes!
Thus, analogies are extremely important for arts, all of the arts: music, architecture, painting, sculpture, etc.
If a piece of art is "viewed" as nice to our eyes, we can consider it beautiful and then, through this the artist can deliver his message!
Enjoy a great summer!

It depends on the reason the artist wishes to make the art. If the message of the work is something which does not require beauty or something from which beauty distracts, then this is a good reason to avoid it. Of course, who is to define beauty? To one person, the message of the artist in a dramatic work which many define as vulgar- such as Francis Bacon or Max Beckman- has more historic beauty than that we see of commercial artists drawing "pretty pictures" of roses or other flowers and sold in mass distribution at places like Target or Ikea. Yet others do not seek to purchase historic beauty they just want something that looks nice in their home or office. This is the challenge many of us artists face with our work- satisfy our heart's desire to tell a story or the market's desire for pretty graphics media. A tough choice when graphics designed to look nice but doesn't always feel like it comes from our heart often pays the bills.
Down to the point- art can do both, but if the artist making the work does not feel like it was his/her work- it really should be labeled as graphic design rather than fine art. And if it was something that was from the artist's heart- even if it does look like the crappiest pretty flower- or anything Bob Ross paints- it's a form of fine art. Although I tend to look at many of the sorts that are constantly copied like Bob Ross more like Folk Art than Fine Art.

Art ın any form has a beauty. It all depends how you look at ıt. What ıt looks so ugly to you may be most beautıful creatıon by others. That all depends how you see art.
But I also beleıve that art should have some sayıng ın ıt. It should not be done just the sake of doıng an art. It should gıve a message to others.
