Someone hit me from behind then I hit the guy in front of me. No one was hurt but my car doesn't look to good. Should I get a lawyer? Am I entitled to some money besides book value?

Just let the insurance companies work it out. The guy in front of you will have his insurance charge yours, then yours will charge the guys behind you. Getting a lawyer is a waste of money and time. The one furthest in the back is responsible for all those in front.

I am assuming that the reason you hit the car in front of you is because of getting hit behind, so you can argue the hit in front was because of the hit behind.

There had better be a police report, which you have a right to have your auto insurance get a copy of. The police report should have on it the details of who hit you behind, who was in front. Let's hope they are all legal people (not false ids) and they all 3 have insurance.

What you are entitled to depends on the police report, which depends on what the various witnesses said, and what kind of physical evidence the police found.

It also depends on whether you are in a fautl state (most money goes to lawyers) or a no fault state (your insurance pays you based on what kind of insurance you have).

When you go to your auto insurance company to settle this, they will want you to take the car to a repair place for an estimate of repairs. If that cost is low enough, they will pay for the car to be repaired, minus your deductable. If the cost is very high, they may say the car is totalled, you have to get another one, and they will pay the book value of the totalled old car, minus your deductable.

Prehaps this question will get better answers if you post it under Cars / Insurance.

I hate all of this "I deserve compensation" Bullsh!t of this age, whoevers fault it was should pay the damage for the other people, in my book this could mean you in part for hitting the person in front of you, and most likely the person behind you should pay for your damages. My opinion is, if things can be set back to normal if someone pays cash for it, then it should be the case, in the case of damages to the persons body or expensive assets, it cant always be sorted by throwing money at it, so thats when you look for compensation.

Really, check to make sure that nobody is injured, then prove that you did everything at the time to minimise the damage done. All in all, I wish you the best for the preceedings.

Definitely get a lawyer.

Otherwise, you're exposed to a suit from the guy in front of you.

If no-one was hurt you probably don't need a lawyer.

As long as the guy who caused the accident has admitted that it was his fault and given you the insurance details so you can get your car fixed.

YES YES YES....get a lawyer...that is the only way to keep you protected. The person that you hit could try suing you.
