Either as long as I don't sit there unplayed for too long. The world needs more music, more harmony, more warm vibrations and both are able suppliers.

I can't choose because I play both and in a sense when you play an instrument, you are the instrument.

A guitar....i think the piano is a beautiful musical instrument and it can make magical music....however, the guitar is more me....in fact there is really no piano-ness in me at all, i´ve come to realize...im not calm and yet concisely powerful like the piano is...im versatile and disorganized and i have about a million different moods...like the guitar as a million different sounds it can make, from the same six strings....and not that a piano couldnt make that many sounds as well, but the guitar is a little more on edge...and i dont mean that in a cool way...i mean that in a nervous..lost sort of way. Thats who i am. Im a guitar. And its ironic, because i cant even play one.

Is anyone familiar with Angel Romero? (Of course there are other fantastic classical guitarists.) The composers for guitar, Albenz, Rodrigo--I've never heard such PASSION from a piano. Emotions, of course, but not like classical guitar. Nor have I ever seen a rapport between the person & the instrument as I did with Mike Oldfield & his guitar. Visually, the guitar has a sensuous shape. The piano is somber (perhaps arrogant?) &, if I had the choice, I'd rather be held close & my strings strummed (!) than having someone sitting & pounding away at my keys. My favourite instrument is the French horn for its space & pure blue colour. Next, the cello--talk about sensuous, deep throated...to each his own! Oh, also, as to romance. Spanish guitar has the market. It can stir the "coldest fish."

Piano

Id definitely be a guitar because with those, the owner could pick me up and hold me. Its more of an intimate connection. Id go crazy having to sit in one spot my whole life. Id travel with my beloved owner and go across the entire United States! Touring and being onstage in the spotlight. I have too much overflowing emotion to be patient and slow as with a piano, well you can be fast on the piano but its more of an easygoing, complacent kind of flow. Id be wailing and singing and belting out my tunes for SURE!! It would be a glorious life as a guitar! It really important for me to get my point out and be HEARD by the world is what Im trying to say I guess................Its got a lot more raw aggressive energy.Though I need to maintain more of a piano in me so I dont lose my balance. And the piano has ALWAYS been very near and dear to my heart, and it is THE most gorgeous sound. Man....its a tough one for me. Its kind of a toss up. Nahh.... it would HAVE to be the guitar!!

Initially the question didn't really make sense to me. But then I thought, In some ways, we (humans) are all pianos and guitars. We're all played by somebody or something outside ourselves. Rarely do we have original thought, and take action to make it real in the world. If I'm to be played by somebody else, I'd want the ability to respond to and create music that can express the full range of emotional moods and creativity available to humanity. And I think I would best accomplish that end as a piano.

I would rather be a piano. Because...
The low and high keys would be like the good and bad times o life. And then the music from there would be all that life has to offer.
And then smiling and fading would be such a delight in my own world of ''keys'' that open the door to all of life's questions.

I also love guitars...but I chose piano because of the '''mellow-ness'' it kind of represants to me.
Though my second choice would be a guitar. But not just any guitar. An acoustic guitar. With it's own keys to life and strings that you weave with your fingers as you smoothly play a harominic entertainment for this world.

They are both stringed instruments. The sound of course being quiet different due to the length and width of the strings. However, the piano once opens pours out it sound to the world like a giant horn of plenty. The guitar, is mellow and one can hold it in its arms and stroke it with great intimacy.

Each have their points of beauty and value, I have played them both, and the violin along with the cello. One cannot not chose between any of them.

The Guitar is a bit easier to play, so more people can play it and experience the life of music. However, for me....as long as the keys are stroked and pounded, I love the length and breath of the piano, but they both have strings, and they both can pull my strings with their melody any time.

Oh, I can't wait to see what cconsaul would say on this one!

My guitar has always been my best friend, especially during those troubled teenage times. I even had a name for "her"...:) Can't say the name here, too embarrassing.

She was always there for me through thick and thin. When I was happy, she sang happy songs with me. And when I was down (which happened quite a lot during those painful adolescent mood swings) just strumming her to my blues on the front porch would just somehow melt the tension away.

And being relatively smaller than the piano, I could just strap her into her own bag and carry her wherever I went. She was also small enough for me to hug close to my being so that we would become one, melodious entity.....

And it seems so sad that I rarely get to play anymore...

So yes, if I were to choose between being a guitar a the piano...
for its personal and emotional significance
for its closeness as a companion
for its mobility and flexibility
and for everything that my beloved guitar meant for me
...I would really prefer to be the guitar ...

It's not the instrument, that makes the difference. It's the Player.

I have heard a Professional Pianist, doing a solo, playing in an London Orchestra and Ive heard an guitar rendition played in 'Hotel California' by the Eagles, in person.

As far as the sound is concerned, both are as magnifying and it doesn't matter if your 2" from the stage or 1/2 a mile. They are both as captivating
