You need to disable the Remote Access software in the computer. It could be called VPN or it could have another name. If you take the laptop to a computer shop and tell them the former owner (you don't need to say who) is accessing the computer without your permission, they will soon be able to fix it for you.

I don't know. I never see somethink like this before... I mean, how can somebody access a laptop hard-drive. After me, that's impossible. Now, does he acces your laptop when it's on or can he acces it when it's of? Well, theoretical, he can't acces your laptop when the system is shut down. So, I think he's synchronizing with you when you're using your laptop. I think he does it by internet. But he doesn't know your email adress. I think that when he left you his laptop, he left in that laptop a program who does an internet connection with his computer, abroad.
You see, I was always dreaming at a virus who can does a connection bitween two distance computers, but I never heard such a story. I think, as I told you before, that he left a program in your Windows who automatic switch on the internet and him(your husband) can enter in your hard-drive. But it's just a supposition.
Hmm, he's a very good hecker.
But, let's think about, how hard can be to find out your email adress? I mean, he's your husband. Maybe he knows a person who knows your email adress and that person could say him your email adress. Am I right? If he knows your email adress he can send you a spyware who activate a switch on the internet bitween your computers. You say that you have all the necessary spywares, but if he's a hecker he can build a new spyware program. But that's (after me) really hard (or impossible). Or... you know, the antivirus program distroy the recents viruses, but ones "forgot" about the "old" viruses. So, maybe he send you an email with something like this, and then... you know...
The 3rd and the most credible possibility is that your husband enter in your local area internet connection and he virused your server, and then he enter in your computer hard-drive.
So, my advice is:
For the first possibility: Try to remove your Windiows and replace with another.
For the second possibility: Change your email adress.
For the third possibility: If you have a wire connection, in the night eject it from your laptop, but more safetly is if you have a wireless connection. So, try to get an wireless connection.

When you had the Hard Drive changed, did they reload the OS from scratch or did they MOVE your os and data files from the OLD drive?
If you copied anything from the old drive you probably just copied over the remote access program. These can be hidden, they can be used!
REFORMAT and REINSTALL the OS. DO NOT COPY ANY DATA OR ANY FOLDERS! You will then have a clean laptop and not have the "spyware" or remote connection software that is being used.

That is really strange since you had the hard drive changed, that should have wiped everything... Unless are you using some type on non standard software that has not come with the system? Also are you sure there isn't a secondary storage device within the system?
