and then an electronic sound. It sounds just like someone is taking a pic with a 35mm camera or something....you know the sound.

Could this be spyware? I am concerned as it has happened a couple of times. I was surfing ebay this time. Is my info safe? I appreciate any thoughts or advice.

Thanks!

OK, This has happened twice to me and if any body else has had this and dome a scan they would aggree, WinAntispyware2007 (trojan) is the culprit.
2 days ago I found it creeping it's way back onto my system after an absense of 3 months.

Goto http://www.grisoft.com

And download the free trial vertion of AVG 7.5 AntiSpyware, it has the definitions to capture and remove WinAntispyware2007, when loaded and installed, run a full system scan and get that sucker out, the last time i had trouble with that trojan my computer went haywire and it took me 4 days to get my computer cleaned up and back on line, so hunt it down and get rid of it ASAP.

It has a log file which takes a snap shot of every site you visit so it can build up a fake red alert warning notice which after about a month flashes uncontrolable warnings on your screen, hence the camera shutter sound you hear.

you might see it in you cookie file as,
Adware.RogueSuspect
once cleaned the identity is revealed as WinAntispyware2007.

Good luck.

Does this sound occur every time you click on a link? If so then it's just a windows default sound. If it annoys you it can be turned off from the control panel.

I think you are having problems with your power supply and are hearing sparks and frying of circuitry being amplified by the sound system.
If they were spying, you would hear nothing.

Very carefully pack the computer back up in its box and return it to the store. Tell the clerk you are too paranoid to own a computer.
