I never voted for him since I kinda always knew he was liberal but this has gone beyond liberal. I truly believe he has become unhinged.

If someone wants to look for a source at to our problems in the middle east, Carter really kind of got it all started didn't he? The anit-semitic stand is hard to believe also.

Good point, Paul, thanks for the reference to this article. It's well worth reading. In a way, Carter does support Hamas. Carter says the US shouldn't seek to divide the Palestinian people. Consider the fact that one group, Fatah, claims to "recognize" Israel. So what? Both groups hate Israel. It's a distinction without a difference.

"Carter said the U.S. and Israel, with European Union acquiescence, sought to subvert the outcome [of the election] by shunning Hamas and helping Abbas to keep the reins of political and military power....The United States and Israel decided to punish all the people in Palestine and did everything they could to deter a compromise between Hamas and Fatah," he said."

Could there be a strategy here to divide Palestine. Israel could use more arable land, and more access to the Mediterranean. How long till Israel declares Hamas controlled Gaza a threat and takes it over completely. Surely this must happen during the Bush administration because the next US president might not allow it.

Okay and I suppose you think Fatah is a group of peace loving pacifists. I'm amazed how a man recognized world wide for his efforts to bring peace to all nations can be criticized so much. Fatah is viewed by Palestinians as corrupt and ineffective. This is why they elected (yes elected in a display of democracy) the government of their choice to lead them. The same process Bush claims to be trying to install in Iraq, he rejects in Palestine. If there exists a greater hypocrisy anywhere show me. We need more men like Carter to stand for justice everywhere and not accept being told what to think about a foreign government.

I heard his statement, and you're right, he does support Hamas. It's classic Carter, I just wish he would finally realize that he is not President anymore and shut up. He's an embarrassment!

He is probably mad that his Mid-East peace plans were a complete failure, like his "presidency", due to groups like the PLO Hezbollerajah, Hamas, Fatah, etc. He should have stuck with the peanuts.

Carter is and has always been out of touch. However, based upon the opinions of those who have worked alongside the man, it is easy to see how he could support and relate to terrorism, as those working under him have often experienced his own brand of just that.
