If it was as bad as everyone tends to make it seem, the human race would have died out long ago. lol!

I have had all 5 of mine without pain medication. I prepared for the birth through education and relaxation techniques and found it was definitely INTENSE and definitely HARD WORK - but it was not excruciating or horrible. In fact, they were all beautiful, invigorating, humbling, and empowering experiences!!!

I recommend going to one of the sites below and checking the information there out...

Good luck and congratulations.

It was alot easier. I thought I would cry and be desperate for medicine. In the end, I had my son (my second child) with no medication at all. Everyone is different, but most people I know did just fine. It is natural to worry about the pain. You don't know for sure what you face and that is scary. Try to put it out of your mind. It really isn' that bad. For me, it was like hard period cramps. But trust me, you will be fine.

it hurts

the contractions build up
you feel them coming on
your tummy gets tight
tighter
pain
when you think you cant take it anymore
the contraction starts to die down
and you can relax until the next one comes

yep, it hurts, its bad pain but it is bearable.
I did it with no pain relief and I am the biggest sook

I dont think you can overexaggerate the pain - it overtakes your body - it is about a 50 out of 10. But at the same time you can get through it.

It is the contractions that hurt
The pushing part and the part when the baby comes out
is not too bad at all.

It does hurt but I didn't have any pain with my epi. By the time the child is due, you'll be so ready to have him/her come out.

I was terrified with my first as well but your body seems to know exactly what to do and the medical staff, at least the the one's I had, was so helpful with tips on how to get me through it.

yes - it REALLY hurts especially when the head comes out. i waited till it was unbearable before asking 4 drugs but i was told i was too near to delivery and had left it too late - my advice - ask for drugs as soon as u think u need them!!
