It depends what look I want to go for.

For a natural, slightly shimmery look, I apply foundation to my face including eyelids and smooth the glittery powder over my whole eyelid - this is enough to make it stick and catch the light.

For a more dramatic look, I use an eye crayon in a similar colour to dot in the places I want the glitter or smooth over my eye - MAC do a very good type for this, but every make up collection has one, Boots 17 have a nice range. Then just apply the glitter to the areas you want - you get really good vibrant colour this way. I often use a silvery or beigy tone under colours, but a blue or green with kingfisher colours looks amazing.

There are a lot of expensive fixative products which in all honesty rarely make any difference, in my opinion. My make up always holds well (even overnight) and the colour is bright, even with loose powders.

I really wouldn't use vaseline, it folds into eye creases and takes the glitter with it and doesn't last well.

The one best tip is to practice and experiment. Go down to make up counters and test different products, you'll find the one that's right for you.

Vaseline is a bad idea. Egg white is just gross.
For getting eye makeup to stick to my oily eyelids this is what I do.
1. Moistureize
2. Foundation and/or powder
3. This I only do on the lid area: Using an eyeliner that is the same hue as the shadow, I cover the whole lid with little strokes. Using an angled brush, I smudge the eyeliner so it's a solid smear of color.
Then eyeshadow sticks to it brilliantly!!
4. If it's not obvious, I apply eyeshadow using a brush by dabbing it on, then using long strokes to even it out.
I've not used loose glitter with this method but I have used loose powder eyeshadoes such as mineral pigment type eyeshadow and a more glittery one from l'oreal HIP. It totally works.
If this doesn't work, try a primer... but that should be basically the same as using a foundation or concealer.

here is what i do-
i get a small pot (maybe a lid of something?) a blender brush and some vaseline and liquid or cream shadow as close to the glitter colour as possible and:
get a tiny blot of vaseline and a blot of cream sahdow and mix it up ntil theyve blended nicely, then get the glitter and put in a tiny bit at a time until you have the amount you want- remember this will be spread thinly!
get the blender brush and dip it in the mix- it should be runny enough to get on a brush, if not add a tiny bit of water. then shut one eye and sweep the mix over your eyelid ( and maybe under your lower lash line if you dare :P ) and wait for it to dry.
its worked for me :P
+ if your using a virbrant loose powder shadow, add a drop of water in it helps it stick and intensifies the colour :P

i hope i helped :)

try some eye primer, it works with my barry m glitter dust. this creates a smooth base for your eyeshadow to stick to. it also makes the colour and glitter last a lot longer.

most eye primers are pretty expensive, but h&m have started a little make-up line and they do one for about £2.99, which works well.

if in doubt or you can't afford a primer, i'd use a VERY thin layer of vaseline. put too much on and your eyeshadow will crease.. not a good look!

Urban decay have a product which will turn loose powders into fixed eyeliners and eyeshadows.

I used to get a gel base from stagemakeup stores and add glitter to that years ago- not sure if they still do it, but it dries, unlike vaseline.

Yeah the thing about pigments and glitters by MAC they're meant to be used with the mixing medium which is sold only in the Pro Stores. Pigments you can use without the medium, but yeah. That's what the glitter is meant to be used with.

i have some MAC glitter eyes shadow.. my faves are all that glitters and idol eyes... i use a white eye liner which i use to color over my lids.. but i perfer and suggest a gel eyeshadow as base then brushing on the MAC shadows.. holds longer and looks very sexy!!! vasilnie will make it crease and won't give ur eyes a clean feel (u'll most likely end up rubbing ur eyes)

Vaseline is as good as anytyhing...it doesn't have to be expensive to work...I have heard some celebs use vaseline even as a moisturizer. Vaseline is a very good all-rounder that helps with alot of things.
Otherwise u can use oilve oil which is 100% natural.

I always apply a powder shadow with a sponge applicator first when I use glittery eyeshadow (Barry M's Dazzle Dust) and it stays out brilliantly. It shouldn't be too hard to get a matching colour, even just a cheap one from Collection 2000 or something.

When I use glitter eyeshadow i always dip the applicator brush in water first so it's slightly damp and then apply the eyeshadow, it makes it stick for ages. Hope that helps!
