What is it about glasses that make people look smarter? Side note, do you think if celebrities like Woody Allen or Drew Carey didn't wear glasses they'd be as famous they became?

People who wear glasses 'look smarter' because society associates the wearing of glasses with 'nerds' or 'geeks' - people who are assumed to be stereotypically intelligent.

I believe people such as Woody Allen and Drew Carey could possibly be less famous if they did not wear glasses, they make you stand out from the rest (particularly the heavily rimmed ones) as very few people have to wear glasses constantly to see clearly. In an environment such as film or television which is extremely competitive you need to bring something original and different, not just talent. Although both very talented, I believe that is what wearing glasses did for Woody and Drew

Maybe because people who wear glasses are sometimes ostracized by the 'in-crowd' at a very young age forcing them
to actually do their homework instead of going out friends all the time. Also, there are alot of people who have good eyeseight but a simple pair of reading glasses would help them read small print better. People probably figure if he/she is wearing glasses he/she most likley use them to read. And reading is assosiated with smart, wich is apart of the 'Bookworm' stereotype....I don't know.

Well, I wouldn't say it makes them look smarter necessarily, but there seems to be a kind of sex appeal to them.
