We are legally divorced since Nov. 2006 He is taking me back to court. He wants to have the alimony dropped. He hired an attorney. I can't afford one. He is lieing about me to his attorney. Really awful lies that make me look like a crazy, messed-up, crooked person. He has a way with convincing people he speaks the truth. And he has sent letters to the judge with more lies. We have a new judge hearing our case. I spent 20,000.00 on my last attorney, and can't afford another one. He is fighting like hell to drop alimony, which he was ordered to pay me. It has been 8 months, haven't received a check yet from him. He swears he will never pay it. His lies makes him look good, and me awful. Any suggestions? Would I be able to talk with our judge about the case? Since I am representing myself. I have to let him know how much my ex's accusations are not true. If the judge believes him...........I'm going to be homeless. And he (ex) has over 6 digits of income.

Legal aid does handle divorce. You could at least get some good legal advice, the truth, and someone to stand with you in court.
He couldn't take you into court with nothing. Get a doctor, too.
Get a doctor to say the divorce has ruined you, and you need time to recuperate, before passing judgment. And then don't make a mistake the rest of your life. God is watching all of us.

I feel for you. Can you disprove his lies? Can you get a character witness? I would never ever recommend going to court without a lawyer. But you are lucky, in that if he is telling lies, you can disprove them to the judge.
I don't know if you could talk to the judge privately. I should imagine not. Is it possible to consult an attorney for advice, not to conduct your case?
Good luck.

Hi there, I am too about to go to court, my ex is saying nasty things about myself as well. Apparently this is what they do. I personally believe that all judges have seen numerous counts of this malicious behaviour from ex partners and are a wake up to what people try and do to each other in such circumstances. (i take it alimony is like child support?) I am in australia. All i do now is try and relax and not stress out too much this is what they are trying to do to us.. Be Strong.

Good Luck

Get a legal aid attorney. Call your local district attorney's office, and tell them that you need someone to represent you because you can not afford an attorney. They will refer you to a free attorney.
