It would be black like space even directly around the sun. All the gasses in the atmosphere causes light to scatter. Blue has the shortest wavelength of visible light which is why the sky looks blue. If there was no atmosphere, it would be plain black (because the light wouldnt scatter).
Note this picture. This is what it would look like. The moon has no atmoshpere. See the earth? That is what the sun would look like, just plain black all around.

Had there been no atmosphere, you could not see the sky at all as no light would come from the sky to your eyes. It is assumed that light can travel in vacuum also. But I do not agree. In fact, there is no vacuum anywhere in the universe. Many may criticize me for this idea of mine. But, I do not bother. I do not accept many modern scientific theories as correct. I am a scientist. I do my own research.

Without an atmosphere, there is no sky, only space. And space looks black because there is no scattered light to show it.

Just like it looks at night but clearer, just like any pictures you've seen from the surface of the moon.

It would be dark, just as it is on the moon where there is no atmosphere.
The sun would still shine, but there would be no gasses to refract the light.
