If your fridge is very old and has no fan inside, when you open the door, hot air rushes in and cold air comes out simultaneously.

In many modern refrigerators, there is a fan inside and so if you open the door, cold air blows out and prevents hot air from entering (at least to a large extent it is prevented from entering).

As you open the door, the inside of the fridge, being much cooler than outside, is under a slight vacuum.
The warmer air will flow into the fridge to equalise the pressure.
(Have you noticed that you need to give the door a good pull to open it.?...That's the vacuum holding it closed).

hot air goes in. law of thermodynamics states that things always go from hot to cold. so hot air goes in first to push the cold air out.cheers.
