When I was younger I did keep a diary.

I stopped keeping a diary because I became bored with myself - bored with the things I wrote about. It seemed to me that I was always writing about the same things and analyzing everything that happened to me in the same way.

Then I started to write poems and I felt that this was a better way to learn about myself and express myself and I never become bored with writing poems. However, I have read that it is extremely helpful for writers to keep a diary and sometimes I think I should try again to keep a diary, but I just can't seem to get back to that way of writing and perhaps I am afraid that I will fail again - be boring again.

I've had on and off diaries for years. I'm so computer-geeky these days, I keep a journal on this laptop. And I have a blog on MySpace, but I don't fill it in too often. And I have a daily journal online (not LiveJournal or anything). So, all my journals these days are on the computer.

I don't put anything really personal on the ones I post on websites. And if I do, I keep it secret, like using stars for the name of a crush or something.

Cool question!

No, I never have. I don't know why I don't, I just never got into keeping a diary.

Yes. Although there are like sites you can use as a journal (ex: livejournal, blog, xanga, etc.) nothing beats the old pen and paper. I duno... it just seems more meaningful and personal with pen & paper. And when you pull the diary out like 10 or 20 years later, it feels like an old, precious treasure. But that's just me. ^_^;;;

I used to keep one I had kept many for about 10 years, then believe it or not my mom read it. And for some reason after that everytime I went to write in it, I just couldn't do it. Its been 7 years, and my boyfriend conviced me to start a new one, so we'll see how this one goes.

Yes but I call it a journal now. I don't write as often as I should, but it helps me get a perspective on things going on in my life. It's always nice to look back at times that I thought I would never get through and see how I got through. Very therapeutic !

To Foundry:

My answer is the same as yours. I had kept one as a young girl and my dad found it and read it. Actually, he was poking around in my room naturally. He never gave us any privacy. Same story with you? I don't keep one anymore But recently went on spiritual trip to Israel and kept one during my stay in Jerusalem. I'm glad I did because there was some valuable information, thoughts, feelings in there. I was happy to refer back to it. spiritually uplifting

I keep a journal. That way I can see the changes in my life over the years. I can look back and see how I have grown, emotionally and spiritually.

yes, I do. I haven't kept up with it meaning I write in it once every couple of months. But I still believe it is good therapy for a person. Work out their thoughts or realize what they were thinking about two week, months or years ago. You either laugh or cry at your naiveté.
