I have a difficult time w/ being able to "stand it" in my husbands country. I have travelled to quite a few different countries, but the egyptian culture I've experienced there is too emotional and nonsensical that I wouldn't even want to go if I were paid $2,000.00/day; however, I can tolerate it for up to 2 wks. every other year. His family and friends have been kind and respectful to me, but I just can't stand it there. Mexico is more advanced than egypt, it's as if egypt is 5th world since 3rd world isn't as bad. The people are nice, but that doesn't help when I'm so uncomfortable there (there's so much littering and trash + life is far too difficult for the everyday citizen. Never saw as many ppl. with such hollow, depressed eyes either).

You CHOSE to marry this man, that means you CHOSE to be as much a part of HIS family as he CHOSE to be a part of your's. Suck up and deal with visiting his homeland as often as he wants...if you didn't WANT to do this in the first place you should NOT have married the man.

If you MUST go, why not try to do some research for some historic places in the area and visit them? There is SOMETHING good there I am sure, you just need to find it. If you REALLY don't want to go, just be honest with your hubby and tell him that it really puts a strain on your mental state and maybe suggest bringing his family here for a visit. I have never been to Egypt, but I have seen some fantastic photos. I would love to discover the mystries there, if given the chance. Maybe i could take your place for two weeks!? J/K Try to find something positive about the place and enjoy!

To see and read up on the history and culture of a country they are visiting. I love to do that when I visit a foreign country. Part of the fun for me whilst on holiday is learning about the country i am visiting and it's history.

Your married, he loves you & you love him so just tell him nothing to be scared about. One year you visit them and the next they visit you if they can afford it, if not let him visit on his own sometimes but it is kind of selfish. Im a Marine in Afghanistan i dont like how they live more like pity but im trying to be compassionate and open minded and of course we have higher standards and expectations like you say theres trash in the streets etc, but you have to be more understanding that it is not as advanced modern or rich in resources like the US. Also make your trips for only a week.

I would just say you two need more alone time to work on your realtionship independently...away from the influence of family.....

Time to develop more ideas of your own...

it's worked for me

Tell him that you feel that it would be better if they visited you instead, because you would like to show them all that your country has to offer.

Next time you go, have him board the plane 1st while you put on your tablecloth with the eye-holes in the ladies room... then trade your ticket for a trip to Vegas and file for a divorce.
Why would he want to drag you to a turd world country when it is obvious you would rather not go.
