Senate and the House. Is this information public or posted anywhere? I am interested at the power these guys have to influence world affairs and the link to whether they are well-traveled or not.

I'd also be interested if there was any other passport info on different branches or agencies. But this question was the initial bet: he says less than 10% don't have a passport , I say more than 10% don't have them (I wouldn't be surprised if it was as high as 25%).

Thanks.

It's a number that is often brought up in populist debate and you can find all kinds of wild guesses and postulates out there. I wouldn't trust the word of newspapers or politicians themselves on a matter such as this. In consequence, the best information I have is from an article in Foreign Policy, No. 108, in which Moises Naim says that "about one-third of the members of Congress do not have a passport and thus have not been exposed to the complexities and diversities
of the rest of the world."

However, please note that this information dates back to the late 1990s. You can see the exact quotation in this later article in the Washington Quarterly: http://www.twq.com/01summer/sariolghalam.pdf.

It is not public record, but I would say most of them do. You know they get free junkets paid for by people trying to influence them. Quite a few have even lost their offices over it.

Their travels do not involve rubbing elbows with the real people so their world travels do not broaden their minds as it does most people. They are ensconced in palatial hotels at someone else's expense. That someone else is often the taxpayers.

They all have passports. There are political meetings and business meetings abroad that everyone attends now and then. They need to travel in order to obtain and maintain their high positions. The USA is Internationalist in character.
