first you have to isolate y on the left side to do that remove -7.
observe the steps below

y - 7 > -12
y - 7 + 7 > -12 + 7 Addition Property of Equality

y - 0 > -5 Closure Property of Equality
y > -5

That means

y > - 12 + 7

y > - 5
