That is not a rational expression. It is a rational number.

-30/75 = (-2)(15)/(15)(5)

Cancel out the 15's from numerator an denominator to get -2/ 5

-30/75 = -2/5

A rational expression is a polynomial divided by a polynomial, where the value of the denominator polynomial is not 0.

A rational number is a number of the form p/q, where p and q are integers, and q is not 0

-30 / 75 = - (5 x 6) / (5 x 15) = - 6/15 (cancelling the 5 in the numerator and denominator)

- 6/15 = - 2x3 / 5 x 3 = - 2 /5 (since 3 gets cancelled)

S0, - 30 / 75 = - 2 /5

Divide top and bottom by 15 (which is the same as dividing by 1)

And you get (- 2) /( 5).

Pretty simple really.
