Franz Kafka was a writer who wrote The Metamorphosis and The Trial. You probably have heard of the Metamorphosis as this is the book where the man turns into an insect. I believe they wrote a movie for the book and Jeff Goldblum starred in the movie.
The Trial was also put into a movie with Orson Wells as director. The Trial is about a man waking up to be arrested for something he doesn't ever find out about.
Other famous titles Kafka wrote include The Castle and In the Penal Colony.

Kafka is one of the most acclaimed and influential writers of the 20th century. His complex, bizarre, absurd and impersonal stories are so unique that his name inspired an adjective - Kafkaesque.
Kafkaesque refers to anything suggestive of Kafka, especially his nightmarish type of narration, in which characters lack a clear course of action, the ability to see beyond immediate events, and the possibility of escape. The term's meaning has transcended the literary realm to apply to real-life occurrences and situations that are incomprehensibly complex, bizarre, or illogical.
Kafka wrote 3 novels: The Trial, The Castle and America along with few novellas and short stories. His most famous work is The Metamorphosis.

Franz Kafka was a Czech writer who wrote in German, his "The Metamorphosis" is still popular among readers with his unique style of unimaginable characterization. Moreover, his two novels, "The Trial" and "The Castle" have been included in the list of the 100 meaningful (formerly, great)books of all time by 100 writers from 54 countries in 2002 (an Oslo, Norway poll). From his biography, we know that he was dedicated to produce his literary works in the midst of his ailing health and unsuccessful love, his fiancee and he got engaged but, with obscure reasons, they never got married till he passed away. His former fiancee emigrated to live in the US and, before she died, disclosed all of Kafka's letters to a publisher and we can read, "Letters from Felice"; all of her letters to Kafka remain mysterious.

Kafka (1883-1924) is one of the best known 'theater of the the absurd' artists, along with Samuel Beckett.
His best known work, The Trial, contributed handsomely to the Existentialist theory, movement, mood.
If you want to read him, start with his relatively less known short play, 'Rhinoceros.'
Good luck

Franz Kafka was a Czech writer who wrote such German classics as Das Urteil, In der Strafkolonie; the novella Die Verwandlung; and Das Schloß.
His works are often discribed as surreal, complex sagas.
I looked up his name after I watched a Venture Bros episode which mentioned his name and described his book Die Verwandlung, "The Metamorphosis"
EDIT: the wording was confusing, I fixed it
