Is the TV tuner really something you need? I want the TV away from my home.

no, you don't need to purchase a different cable service or anything. the Tuner just acts as another TV in your house; just use the same cable you normally use.

No need for a separate service, well some legality thrown into the mix some cable company will want an extra nominal fee for a second active TV plug. But that is no where close to signing up a separate service.

Besides that, all you need to buy is that TV tuner box adding television functionality to your laptop. Obviously it is a USB 2 box. We are in the transitional age between digital and analog but any more confusion can be solved by reading the tuner box's manual.

Yes.... ATI has a TV Tuner for around $45 and you can also use it to copy from VHS or just from the tuner it self, it plugs into your USB port and yes you will need Antenna or Cable, sorry but i have not seen a wireless one yet, I don't remember the brand but years ago there was a P-II Laptop had built in TV Tuner.... You can also try some of the Internet TV, i have tried it before, not all that good....
