Old and or expensive Mirrors are flat Panes of Glass coated with real Silver. Less expensive and more modern Mirrors are coated with Silver Paint. Real Silver can be smelted to a very pure state. mirror in optics, a reflecting surface that forms an image of an object when light rays coming from that object fall upon it (see reflection ). Usually mirrors are made of plate glass, one side of which is coated with metal or some special preparation to serve as a reflecting surface. The junction of this reflecting surface and the plate glass is called the mirror line. Highly polished metal and other materials serve also as mirrors; fused quartz is used for applications that require high precision because of its very low thermal expansion. Three common types of mirror are the plane mirror, which has a flat, or plane, surface; the convex mirror; and the concave mirror.

I'm not so sure any more that I am seeing my image when I look in a mirror.

It's my image in one sense but it's in reverse to how other people see me.

As to how this reverse image is created, this is where it starts to get difficult. Our ancestors, in the years BM or Before Mirrors, either had to look into a flat shiny piece of copper or else look down into the still waters of a pond to see their reflection.

A modern mirror has a silver backing coated in black or dark paint. That's all I know about mirrors.

Most surfaces will reflect light, but in a haphazard fashion, i.e., they scatter much of the light rays hitting them in many directions. Mirrors reflect light rays in a uniform pattern, allowing us to see a virtual image.
