Yes. Homosexuals are no more a threat to our young people than your average heterosexual teacher. The most recent cases of child molestation involving teachers and pupils have been of a heterosexual nature--young female teachers seducing teenage boys, and male teachers seducing teenage girls. I've heard of priests and little boys, but they are pedophiles.

I know from the tone of your question that you won't be receptive to my next statement which is that many of our most creative and enthusiastic teachers are homosexuals. Whether you like it or not, they have something to offer our students. I think most of them have the good sense to not flaunt their sexuality, and therefore they pose no threat. Thinking back to my junior high school years, I remember a much loved female biology teacher that all the students loved--we took up a collection at Christmastime to buy her a 12 gauge shotgun that she had talked about wanting. No one ever thought about her sexuality back then. Now I realize that she was probably a lesbian, but she never advertised it. She was just an excellent teacher.

A homosexual cannot turn your school aged child into a homosexual. If he or she (your child) is a homosexual, he/she has been that way since the day he or she was born. You can see signs of it long before that child hits puberty even. There's the little girl who would rather play with action figures and trucks than dolls, and the little boy who is more interested in his mother's make up and household appliances than he is playing catch with his dad.

Homosexuality is not a choice. No one would choose this lifestyle voluntarily. Neither is it a perversion. God made them this way for reasons some of us may not yet understand. And no, I'm not a homosexual.

If it makes you feel better, I don't think child predators or pedophiles or pornographers should be allowed to teach in or live near our schools, AND they should have CP tattooed on their foreheads.

Yes homosexuals should be permitted to live near schools and teach at any grade level.....and we're not deviant and disgusting.

In fact, homosexuals are the most civically active members of society. We support children and education. A major percentage of us vote in elections to help the kids out. Many parents who are homosexual, adopt children. Their parents have no influence on their sexuality. Parents have much more influence on kids than teachers do. So why would a teacher encourage homosexual acts when parents don't? Kids are more likely to see how homosexuals live and they develop tolerance. Kids are much less likely to be homosexual, commit violent and deviant hate crimes, and become more educated from being around homosexuals.

Another point....sexual orientation is to stay out of the workplace, unless to educate in diversity. Most kids don't have gaydars until middle or high school.

Another point.....most homosexuals are among the more highly skilled, educated Americans. We are civically involved....so having homosexual teachers would be a benefit to the children. There are studies that show how homosexuality and the brain work. Homosexuals develop advanced curricula everyday and this is all to benefit the children.

More heterosexuals are pedophiles than homosexuals. Period.

This is all coming from a 3rd year college student, who is nationally recognized for academic performance. I am going for 8 more years of school. I have had gay teachers in middle and high school. I knew my sexual orientation since I was 5 years old though.

On top of that, I am well on my way to becoming a nationally known female impersonator aka drag queen.

I am living proof that homosexuals have active minds that are crucial to many different occupations.

Why would it matter? The definition of homosexual does not mean "child molester." I don't want "child molesters" near my kids or near schools. Someone who is a homosexual might be the best teacher around. By definition, homosexuals are not a danger to kids. So what's the problem?

I've known many homosexuals and not one, not one, has ever tried to advocate that his lifestyle was the best one out there or tried to change me, etc. Therefore, I don't think homosexual teachers are sitting around classrooms trying to indoctrinate kids. Anyone who thinks so is probably a little too paranoid.

However, their presence in classrooms, assuming their lifestyle is known to the students, which it probably isn't in many cases, has the tendency to cause children to become more tolerate of it. That's a good thing. Anyone who bases their decisions on ignorance makes a bad choice. Decisions must be based on knowledge or you'll just keep making stupid decisions. Children should be exposed to all sorts of different people, as long as those people are safe. Unless there is proof to the contrary, homosexuals are safe people. So what's the problem?

Don't be absurd.
I went to public school in the segregated South of the fifties and sixties, not exactly a bastion of liberalism. The school was small, about a hundred in each class, and everybody new everybody's business. It is appropriate for people to gripe about the influence of people at school whom they don't hold up as good role models for their children. The problem, though, is that they're directing their energies in the wrong direction. The problem is that most schools are simply too large for the "everybody knows everybody else's business" kind of environment I mentioned. Smaller but more numerous schools would obviate the need for a lot of silly "solutions" to school problems, and economies of scale, advanced classes and the like, can be handled with a little not very innovative thinking and a bus.

What does their sexuality have to do with anything?
I don't know, but, am wondering... why do they let some people post on these boards? Who knows who might be lurking here. I understand Karl R. has been doing quite a bit on the internet lately... ? Makes ya kinda wonder, doesn't it?
ThaNasis: Be careful what you ask for, I understand we ALL may have to wear some kind of "brand," "ID," or the like!
You want to wear an ID around your neck that defines you, or points YOU out in a crowd? Think about it folks, before you allow your ignorance to show...

No, homosexuals should be banned from any decent neighborhood altogether, they should be given special ID cards and be obliged to present it upon any social occasion. They should also be identified as early as kinder-garden and sent to different schools than our kids and have a pink star sown into all their clothes. While you're at it do the same for people of all ethnic minorities, all people who belong to any race, class or political party different to yours. I think that would make your world very nice and safe....Oh my god mate WAKE UP!!! (sorry for the sarcasm, I'm just trying to make a point)

(Sigh) That citizens of a supposedly "free society" even need to contemplate this issue is very, very sad.

Of course homosexuals and lesbians should be allowed to teach and live near schools. Besides, as a previous poster noted, its Catholic priests who we should be keeping an eye on. That's not an attack on the Catholic Church, just an observation.

And its a well known fact that the vast majority of pedophiles are heterosexual, not homosexual.

If you are suggesting that homosexuals are a danger to our children this is an atrocious slur. Homosexual does not equal pedophile.

Why should the youth of our nation be denied the right to be educated by people who are currently fighting for their rights? People who understand how precious freedom and justice are?

There are women teachers. There are African American teachers. There are gay teachers.
