I don't know which network you are on over there but providing you have a Kuwait SIM card in the phone you shouldn't be paying for receiving an international call. If you were on a network outside Kuwait, then you may pay the charge from Kuwait to the country you are in, but not the UK to Kuwait side.

That's how the cell phone company makes money, since they still have to support your call through their networks. Land lines are much simpler and cheaper so they don't have to charge for incoming calls. I would suggest getting a cell phone on the same carrier with an international plan that can talk to other people on the same plan for free. Im not sure who has one, but I'd guess one of the big cell phone companies (Cingular, sprint, T-Mobile, alltel, etc) has one. I would just call each carrier, tell them where you live and where your wife lives, and ask if they have a plan where you two can talk for free.

because thats how all cell phones work... land lines are different and you dont have to pay for incoming... if you want, get the same service and then just use the cell phones to contact each other
