So my Eclipse has Unleaded gas in it since my dad put it. Guess he didn't see the Premium gas only. It has 1/4 left in the tank, woudl it be safe to put Premium in along with the 1/4 of Unleaded. Thanks

It would be safe yes but it would also be a good idea. I'm guessing your eclipse is turbo. But yea go top it off with premium. Burn that tank of gas off then go top it off with premium again. Your car may run sluggish with the unleaded in there. Poor dad...atleast he was trying to be nice by putting gas in your tank. give him credit for trying.

If you put in some premium with some regular gas, you can average the octane rating. If you have a fairly new car (post 96) with engine knock sensor, then your ECU (computer) will automatically dial back the ignition timing to compensate for the lower octane gas.

If I was you I would put in 3/4 Premium (or max) with the 1/4 regular. That way the the average octane rating will be almost that of premium gas.

This is not as critical as the oil companies would leade us to believe. Unless you are climbing tall mountains or pulling a trailer, the auto motor is seldom called upon for a max effort. More critical in a speed boat because of the heavy continuous load strain. In a car, only under hard accelerator is PING noticed and modern ignition computers will detect the ping and retard the spark. I have run regular in a motor recomended to run premium for 75000 miles.with no ptoblems.

No problem with mixing the gas. You'll probably end up with an octane rating of 90, but that is better that 87 especially if you drive hard.
