James Worthy without a doubt. Killer inside game. Hits the 3. Great free throw average. Unstoppable inside move. Great fastbreak finisher. I seen him play against all these players. He topped them all. but these other player I'll take nothing away from them. Kevin McHale was a great shot blocker. Larry Nance had a great jump shot. Karl Malone had a great post up move and an awesome fastbreak finisher. But Worthy had all these qualities and then some. Too quick and strong.

James Worthy - quick and swift post scorer
Larry Nance - fundamental player with great defense and shotblocking ability
Kevin McHale - creative low post player with great foot work
Karl Malone - possesses a precision fadeway shot with has a nice touch and great defense

Let's see. 3 guys on the list played on teams with great point guards. James Worthy had Magic Johnson, Larry Nance had Mark Price, and Karl Malone had John Stockton. Kevin McHale didn't have a great point guard on his team but he did play on a team that featured arguably, one of the best playmaking forward in NBA history with Larry Bird. In terms of being unstoppable in the paint, it'll be really close between Worthy and McHale but I'd give McHale the slight edge due to his skillful use of his footwork. On defense, it would be pretty close between Malone and Nance with Nance receiving the edge due to his uncanny ability to block shots.

Worthy and McHale were gifted offensive players but they lacked a strong defensive game. Larry Nance was a great rebounder and strong defensive presence but his offensive game wasn't as refined as the other 3 candidates. Out of the 4 players, Karl Malone had the best offense / defense combo. He was a great scorer and played great defense. Plus, the Mailman did not have a strong team of All-Stars like the other 3 contestant. McHale had Bird and Parish, Worthy had Magic and Kareem, and Nance had Price and Daugherty. However, this 2-time regular season MVP and 3-time NBA All-Defensive 1st Team winner was still able to lead his team to 2 NBA finals and would have won 2 championships had he not had to play against Jordan's Bulls. So if I had to choose a more complete forward to build my team around, I'd pick Karl Malone.

KARL MALONE. He's proven that he could carry a team.

Though the two guys you mentioned McHale & Worthy are good, they were never really the go-to-guys of their team during their prime. At best they were just second fiddle to Bird & Magic respectively.

I'd have McHale anytime. He's got great basketball body: tall, broad shoulders, long arms and quick feet. McHale's probably the greatest low post player ever with a vast array of post moves in his arsenal. He's also a solid rebounder and a first class defender so he could definitely carry his team on both ends of the floor. And because of his size, physique and talent he could easily shift from no. 4 to no. 5 (center) position. McHale would've been go-to-guy anywhere else but not in Boston because of the presence of a great player named Larry Bird. Had he not played alongside Bird, he would've been the Celtics' all-time leader in points and rebounds and could've won at least 1 MVP.

give me Karl Malone all day. He plays strong, has a great inside game and he can consistently hit the mid-range shot. He runs the fast break with ease and he can rebound with the best of 'em. He shoots free throws very well and he gives 120% every time he steps on the floor. So what if he doesn't have a ring...it wasn't his fault! He's a beast down low and a great scorer.
