Well, lots of places have restrictions on which exhausts modifications and other things you can put on your car.

They are not car specific. Just make sure when you are buying products it says either "street legal" or "50 state legal" something similair to that.

The only reason you have to do that is to make sure your car can pass the emissions restrictions. Other than exhaust parts and richer fuel mixtures thats the only thing that could get you on the illegal side for that part.

Next is tires. Make sure your tires are street legal. Basically anything but slicks is street legal. Just stick to regular tire shops around town.

After that is tint and horsepower.

Depending on where you live tint can be legal, illegal, or restricted to a certain tint percentage. Check your local police website for that and "street glow" is also on there.

Horsepower usually it can't be more than 500. But if you can limit it it should be okay. They can't really Guess how much HP you have. Also, if you take the governor off of your car and they catch you, you could be in some trouble.

OK The Scion is Not a bad car when comparing the Specs but against a RSX Type~S the Scion looks good and has a great body style, The problem is that the Scion is to HEAVY in Body weight if you want to Mod it like Acura the performance is there but the body of the Scion is to bulky. but you can Tune it all JDM style and make it a good Street Cruiser & show stopper too. I like Both cars but if id want to run some one on the street and track & cruise too I will say that the RSX Type ~S is a better choice and the parts are very easy to install and modify. I like both cars at first sight but drive the TOP Performance line Scion & RSX Type ~S then choose for your self.

It really depends on what city and state you are in. Definately check wtih your local DMV.

Most cities get after you for a loud exhaust system so you need to stay below 92-93 decibels.

Under car lighting is a no-no while driving in most states. Also lighting on the front of the vehicle. You cannot have more than 4 white lights in front while driving on the street and you definately cannot have red and blue .. those are reserved for police vehicles.

Some states requrie CARB (california air resource board) approval on air intakes and headers for example.

You cannot generally change your catalytic converter until the car has 50,000 miles unless defective.

you cannot have a dvd player where the driver can see it.

anything takes away or impedes the factory installed safety equipment ... like air bags etc..

We've been modding cars here in Texas for 10 years

In most cities it is illegal to tint your rear and backseat windows past 35%. Anything on the front drivers, passager, and windshield is illegal. Any headers that remove the catalytic conver is illegal. In some cities, even installing a turbo kit is illegal. Most cold air intakes are fine, but if you live in cali make sure you have your C.A.R.B exemption sticker on it. Also, any exhaust generally louder than 93dB is illegal. Also, if your running subs, cops might try and give you problems if its over a certain level. I carry around a small dB meter (available at walmart for like 20 bucks) so i can prove its under the cities limit. Its also illegal to have a tv monitor that works while the car is in gear, and it is illegal to have underglow on while in motion on a public street (you can turn em on when driving through a private parking lot, or when you are not in gear in a public area). Darn restrictions keep us from having too much fun when we tune or tC'S!

It's going to vary from state to state, and in some cases between different municipalities.

Definitely go to the DMV and find out what's actually illegal. There are a lot of things that may seem harmless to you, but are actually prohibited in many areas, like brake light covers, bright interior lighting while the car's being driven, etc.

decibel noise on an exhaust, tint thats too dark on your windows... go down to your local dmv and ask them, they should have a book or a pamphlet you could get.

this will depend on what state you are in, as well as how laidback your local police system is....some states have decibel requirements, or smog detection systems...some don't care what your car looks or sounds like
