I am not religious, so I don't believe in the 'heaven' thing. Personally, I think that when you are dead, you're dead...nothing more than that. I don't think the body has an internal soul that goes anywhere and watches over people. It's good for closure, but as far as the literal after death, I don't believe it's anything at all.
The Chrisitanity belief is either heaven or hell, but if you are going to say that...then you might as well say that the Egyptians had kingdoms with slaves, gold, and all the other things they were buried with...which most people say that is absurd. In retrospect, it's no different or more absurd than the Christian belief.

Believers who have accepted Christ will be admitted into Heaven. All those who haven't will be sent to hell, which is described in the Bible as an eternal sea of fire - you are thrown into it , engulfed in flame eternally - always burning, but never dying. You are on fire for the rest of your life. In heaven, it is every drop of happiness you could ever imagine one hundred-fold, where all creation is praising God, and happy. After a thousand years, or a hundred years, or maybe even a day, however long it takes, the end of the world will initiate. This is described by Jesus Himself in the book of Revelation - the last book of the Bible. It is simplified and put into movie form by the Left Behind series. Good series, too.

Your question is not meaningful unless you accept some authority as being able to provide the truthful answer.
Thus Buddisth, Hindus, and Christians, Agnostics, Atheists may have different answers. Who is right?
Those of us who have faith in the Bible have faith because of things that without fail prove to us that the Bible is worth trusting!
What is strange is that the Bible tells us that upon death a person returns to non-existence and his body returns to the dust from which it originated. An answer many Agnostic and Atheist also embrace!
Here on this HP, the Bible's scriptures may be seen to clearly teach this:

If you read your Bible you'll find there that when one dies the physical body goes back to dust and the spirit goes to the bosom of the Father to await judgement. Heaven is a place and a reward for the believers who have kept the Faith until the end. Good luck to your search for the Truth.

Ever step into a room and all conversation stops? That is what happens after death. The mind body link dissolves into nothing.
When Nietzsche died he was all dressed up and nowhere to go.

the same place we were at before we were conceived.
i believe in god but don't see god as a person or being. god is more like an energy, for lack of a better word. god is a force that drives everything from the natural world to the lunch menu. god is everything and when we die, we become one with god. we return to universe and continue to move it; as a thought, a memory, a book, a scribble, a blade of grass, an orange leaf, a kiss or smile.

e=mC^ energy cannot be created nor destroyed, but can change into matter and back into energy so, at the least....
our energy gets redistributed throughout the universe.
With that in mind, I conclude that our horizons expand.

As the Bible says, if you believe, you will be rewarded (Heaven). Otherwise, it's going to get hot!
(All major religions and some now defunct ones believe in Heaven and Hell...)
