pine is cheap, available everywhere, and it's a soft wood, so there's less chance your saw will snag.
good luck! ; )

I would agree with the man who first said POPLAR. It is a soft wood with hard wood characteristics. It is more stable and less apt to warp than any of the soft woods. Because of its stability, it is a wood that is often used as a base for veneers. If you plan to make something like a table or a chair, get what is called "quarter cut" regardless of what would you end up getting.
I would suggest that you get some books on cabinet making and working with wood - you will learn bundles

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/wbDX7
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

Spruce is the cheapest here and is very easy to work with. Fir will give you a nicer finish grain for a bit more money and is a harder wood. It all depends on what you're making. You can go to oak or maple when you get more confidense and are willing to spend more. Good luck and have fun!!! That's the most important part!!!!
