The water pipes busted in our house, while our landlords were out of time, when they got back, they compensated us for staying in a hotel for a few nights, however he made us move back in the house when there was only water in one room. Then to make things worse he gave our plumbers a key to our house and allowed them to be in there by themselves, and they stole several items from us. Even after we found out they were stealing, he continued to allow them to work in our house. Can we break the lease legally?

You can if you can prove that the conditions were bad with pictures, witness statements ect. You will probably have to take your landlord to court and it is a pain in the @#$ and takes a while. Take a look at your lease & see if it states that you need to give permission for someone to enter. You may have a case there. Your best bet might be to just leave. Make sure you have cleaned the place up (as well as you can under the circumstances) and fixed any damage that you may have caused. Chances are he'll try & sue you for the remainder of the lease. Then you can file a counter suit to try & get your security deposit back. Good luck.

Probably not. As long as water was provided to the facility, they are in keeping with health and safety codes. Landlords are allowed to have contractors enter the premises in your absence to repair such emergency situations. If you have proof that these contractors stole items, of course you have a case against the contractor involved. However, my guess is it is going to be your word against theirs.

Speak to your landlord about the missing items. He may have a serious talk with the contractor involved.
