Oooh, I would love to go back in time, but I would not want to be any historical figure. What one thing would I do to make the future better for everyone? I would make it a guaranteed law for all Mankind that no one would ever have more than two children.
Think of it: all of our current problems stem from overpopulation: pollution, wars, famines, thefts, murders, you name it, they are all caused by overpopulation.
Fix that, and everything else will fall into place.
Man kind is running out of time...

I would be at the vote in Constantinople in the year 553 when the doctrine of reincarnation, so of rebirth as a human being, through which indeed the Love and Justice of God first become intelligible to us human spirits, was expunged from Christian creeds by a very small majority decision.
I would had made the deciding vote so that reincarnation would be still part of Christian creeds. This would had made a huge difference for every one in the future as reincarnation would be a matter of course also for Western humanity. There would be then no need to battle against walls of doubt and prejudice, to free our thinking from that dreadful constraint into which it has fallen solely through this unhappy decision which has robbed us of the outlook on the connections and the vastness of our existence.

It don't work that way. A minor change promulgates into a vast change over time. Any disturbance in the past, haunts you in the future.

Try this for a paradox:
You go back in the past and replace someone, but if you do that, the time machine is never invented so you couldn't go back into the past in the first place. Question: What are doing here?

I wouldn't do it. I'd rather be myself than destroy the current universe and mess with time.
