Weight lifting and then cardio, not the other way around. Otherwise your body will start burning your muscle for energy and not your stored body fat. And as others have said the more muscle mass the higher the metabolism and the leaner you will look. It will also help to keep from getting excess skin if you were really overweight.

Both! By doing resistance training you'll be increasing your muscle mass, which in turn boosts your overall metabolism, so you'll be essentially losing pounds 24/7. Of course, sustained aerobic exercise like swimming or running or sports is also great for your heart and your body too. If you're just getting started, think about combining the two together equally. So if you lift for 30 minutes, do aerobic exercise as well for at least 30 minutes too.
It's very important for you to know what you're doing before you start resistance training - if you've never done it before, consider joining a gym and / or get a personal trainer to show you the ropes so that you can do it safely. Also remember to work all of your muscle groups equally: upper body, lower body, and core. Good luck!

you won't lose 23 lbs doing that workout by July. Instead of walking, continually jog. You will most likely have to do vigorous cardio, and I mean quite ridiculous cardio, everyday if you want to lose 23 lbs by july. You will have to eat right: No snacks, no sweets, no fatty foods. Eat healthy and eat between 5-6 small meals per day. Spread them out throughout the day. (this starts up your metabolism) For the workouts you will most likely have to do: situps (or just a lot of ab exercises), sprint workouts, jogging, etc. Good luck, losing 23 lbs in roughly a month is going to be quite difficult. Average weight loss for a great workout/diet plan is around 1-2 lbs per week. You've got five weeks. Do the math on how hard you need to work.

well muscle burns fat at rest so building more lean muscle tissue means a higher resting metabolism. but you want to do aerobic exercise too to get your heart rate up and everything moving around. it's about balance. you also want to look at your eating habits you want to go no more than 3 waking hours without putting something nutritious in your mouth. think of a campfire if you let it go down to coals and throw a log on it, it just smolders and you are left with a log but, if you keep feeding the fire smaller bits of wood often it will burn and burn hot and all you are left with is ashes. Same with losing fat if you have a good breakfast, mid morning nutritious snack, sensible lunch, afternoon snack, and modest supper with a evening snack.........you will increase your metabolism and burn the fat better. It will also help regulate your blood sugar and give you the nutrients you need to help you with your exercising. also don't forget to drink lots of distilled water....you should drink 1/2 your weight in ounces of water/day so if you weigh 160 you should drink 10 glasses of water. that keeps your body properly hydrated and lubricates all your system so they can work at their best.

Lifting weights is great actually it helps build muscle and the more you have the higher your motabloizm and the more fat you burn. Cardio is what burns the fat and causes the weight loss just so you know but its always good to have the combination

From everything I've read, diet alone won't do it either. You need at least minimal exercise, of both resistance (weight training) and cardio (running, swimming, etc.) types.

Lose bodyfat by changing your diet and doing cardio.
Weights will help, but they alone will not do the job for you. Cardio alone can't do it for you.
Changing your diet, alone, can do it for you. Do it alone or with exercise, but you need to completely change the way you eat - and not a fad diet - those only make you worse.

I think you need to do both, weights and cardio plus a calorie deficit in your diet.
